Lite Ranch Dressing Recipe

by Natasha on May 18, 2010 in dinner 101

You are SO gonna love me for this one…We love ranch dressing in our house, it’s by far both P’s & my favorite. Problem is it’s so bad for you, I mean it’s like 90% mayo & buttermilk…not exactly figure flattering. And I don’t know about you but every “lite” ranch I buy taste like watered down crap. I’ve tried making it from scratch too but there’s so many herbs & seasonings…not quite practical for my life lately. That’s why I was so excited to figure out this recipe, and my favorite part? You only need three ingredients. Yep, 3!

-Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning packet or jar
-2% greek yogurt
-lowfat milk

Mix about 1 cu of yogurt to 1 tbs of seasoning mix, (add more seasoning to your desired ranchiness) thin with milk to get desired texture…I thinned it out for salad dressing & left it thick for a veggie dip. It’ll keep in the fridge up until the yogurt’s expiration date.

You could also use lowfat sour cream instead of yogurt if you like but the yogurt is so much better for you…greek yogurt pretty much taste like nothing too. And one serving is packed full of protein.

So there’s my tip just for you…hope you like it as much as I do! Is it sad that I get this excited about salad dressing?

I've done that and it's so good. No one even knows the difference if you serve it like sour cream dip with veggies. People say they think it's better when I tell them it's greek yogurt. Another option that's also good for you and high in protein is lowfat cottage cheese blended in your blender with milk. It's thick and creamy and tastes great with the ranch dip mix.

Awesome! I love ranch but always feel guilty eating it! I've been wanting to try greek yogurt so this is the perfect opportunity!

Sistersue-It's pretty popular now, you'll find it near all the other yogurts in your grocery store.

Natasha you are just a genius! @ sistersue–Greek yogurt is SO easy to find. Stores like Whole Foods or Trader Joes stock it regularly and it is cheaper at Trader Joes. Regular grocery stores stock it too, mostly in their "natural" foods sections. If you just want a very small container, yoplait now sells a greek yogurt in a single serving size, but it is around 1.00!!! Hope that helps.

One of the popular yogurt brands just started selling their own line of Greek yogurt (at least they do here in Wisconsin) so it's super easy to find. I just started my diet today, and I'm sure this is going to be the best thing ever.

If it's sad that we're excited about salad dressing, I should throw a full out pity party (with ranch dip, of course). I LOVE Greek yogurt. Can't wait to try this.

Thanks for the recipe! I use bulk ranch mix from penzey's so I'll have to find out how many tsp is in a packet of that mix.

blend in a dollop of cream cheese for an added "richness" to the taste.

I have a great half the calorie ranch (with your idea it could be even better!).
    4 oz milk
    4 oz mayo
8 oz salsa, I use medium
    1 pkg ranch
mix and let set. It is great over a grilled chicken salad with fritos, kidney beans and tomatoes.

I just found this! And I am trying it out immediately! We are huge fans of dipping fries into ranch dressing and we eat a lot of yogurt around here. Your version of ranch dressing sounds so yummy. thank you for sharing.

I was wondering if almond milk will work just as well as low fat milk ?
