Hello Rose.

by Natasha on May 31, 2012 in Uncategorized

There’s something new that’s moved into our house…

The girls & I were walking through Petsmart & she had literally just arrived off the truck. Yes, the cat truck.

Apparently shelter kitties get dispersed around the country to Petsmart adoption centers. This little girl came straight from the streets of Miami. A homeless girl from Florida. (sigh) Then she let Sam AND Sophie Monster hold her, several times, and she even purred for them! (oh no, she’s a sadomasochistic homeless kitty!) We quickly fell in love & fast forward a week & Rose is now officially a member of our family. Sam was insistent on naming her ‘Sleeping Beauty’. I wanted to name her ‘Katniss’ because I love the Hunger Games & hellooo, naming a CAT KATNISS is funny people. Sam said that was a terrible name. So then I suggested ‘Primrose’ hoping to still get my ode to Hunger Games but knowing Sam might go for the flowery aspect. She said “Fine. Her full name can be Primrose but we’ll call her ‘Rose’ since that’s Sleeping Beauty’s name anyway.” Argh! Foiled by my 3 year old again! ::Shakes fist::

As many of you warned me, even months later, there is still an empty spot in my heart for Parker. I’m sure there always will be. While Rose certainly can’t replace him she did seem to warm that spot up a little. P used to always tease Parker that he must have fallen in a paint bucket because of all of his different spots & colors. The other night while playing with Rose he said that with her white chin, gray stripes & white socks she might just be a new little paintbucket pet that Parker sent our way. I like that.

Im not sure what PetSmart you got this from but I volunteered at Bowie Petsmart all of last year and part of this year. 99% sure you got this baby from Last Chance Animal Rescue. http://lastchanceanimalrescue.org/ I love Last Chance because they are 100% NO KILL.

I hope you enjoy your new addition and thank you for adopting and not shopping!

You know, I’m pretty sure you’re right! She had been given the name ‘Susannah’ by the shelter…but of course that wasn’t gonna fly in this house. The ladies from the shelter were SO SO nice. What a great organization!

Actually, Last Chance IS a kill shelter. They just send their cats to Tri-County Animal Shelter In Charles County. I used to work there and I had to put KITTENS in carriers to be sent there to “be destroyed”. LCAR is a horrible organization.

Really? I worked there (bowie) for over a year and I never heard that. They get cats from kill shelters so I am not sure its makes sense they send them to another one?

My roommate adopted a kitten back in January and also named her Primrose! We call her Prim, but little hunger game kittens are the best!

Congrats!! And great name! 🙂 I have a shelter kitty I adopted 7 years ago named Rose, she’s a larger, buff and white, long haired princess (princess with attitude!) We’ve also got a black cat–they’re so sweet and wonderful. You also did a great thing as most black kitties don’t get adopted since people think they’re “bad luck.” (Obviously none of them ever had a black cat, they are GOOD luck!)

    Cute kitty!

Side question: Are those quilted green euro shams in the bottom picture? I can’t tell whether they’re throw pillows or not. If they are euro shams, where did you get them?! I got a green paisley quilt for my bed and cannot, for the life of me, find matching green euro shams. The ones in your pictures are EXACTLY what I’ve been searching for!

lol, you’re pretty observant! those are euro shams but they’re from our wedding registry a la pottery barn 6 years ago! although PB is pretty good at keeping those types of items from year to year…it’s worth looking. They’re a bluish-green & are velvet on one side, silk on the other. good luck!

This makes me smile 🙂 We adopted our second kitty from Petsmart- he was about months or so at the time- but he came from a local cat shelter. When our first cat passed away, we adopted a second kitten from a local animal shelter a month later. It never replaces the lost pet, but it can really help ease the pain a lot. Congratulations on the new family member!

Congrats on your new addition and I’m so happy you chose adoption. I like the thought of Parker sending her to you, I believe in that kind of stuff.
