Knit Fall Dresses

by Natasha on September 27, 2010 in tutorials

Did I sew every day for an hour like you’re supposed to for the Kids Clothes Week Challenge?

No. Not even close.

BUT, I did sew & as my new sewing/mommy/coffee&winedrinkingbuddy Susan from Crafterhours told me at our little 1st playdate get together, “I think you get a pass”. (BTW, how stupidly awesome is it that one of my favorite craft bloggers moved to my area? Insanely lucky, right?!)

So, I did sew. And it was probably for an hour each day for 3 days if you added up all the quickie 15 minute trips to the craft room that I was able to snag before Sophie decided it was time to eat…again. And here’s what I ended up with, two little knit t-shirt dresses for Samster’s Fall wardrobe…

(tee from Old navy)(tee from men’s dept at Target, thanks for the tip Brooke!)(This is what I get when I tell Sam to “smile”)

I also got about 90% done with a knit top for me, pics of that to come. (Hopefully.)

No sewing for Sophie yet, I’m a little perplexed as to how you sew for a newborn. She really just wears those little footed sleepers everyday & they seem like they’d be a lot of work considering you can buy a pack of them for $5 at Target.

I do want to try making Samster a fleece long sleeved dress & was toying around with the idea of some coordinating fleece overalls for the little one…now that I think about it that might just work. Hmmm…

Did any of you guys participate in the sewing challenge?

Great dresses. I didn't participate, but I should do something like that to get motivated. Our girl wore the footed sleepers all the time, too. I love 'em. Can't wait to see the knit top.

My daughter is 2 1/2 and I get pretty much the same look cause she tries to wink when I ask for a a smile. I love these dresses they are awesome… I think I'm going to have to look in the mens section more often.

Can't wait to see your shirt! I think newborns just need jackets/dresses. Little footed pjs seem like too much work to me too. I didn't participate this time around b/c we were out of town.

cute dresses! I love Samster's smile, so cute, lol. I tried to participate but between nesting and preparing for the nursery and Nicole's first day of preschool and bible study and then just being a third-trimester-hot-mess, I didn't get tons done. Just a messenger bag and the embroidery on what will hopefully be a very cute tiered skirt, when I get a chance to finish it.
For my little girl-to-be I'm gonna try Made By Rae's little dress, and then I'm gonna make some shirred skirts with matching appliques on onesies, and maybe matching tunics for Nicole. No point in spending hours on something that will only fit for a few months, I figure! A few cute matching outfits for going out, and otherwise the sleepers are just great!

LOL. Sorry I had to laugh at the tought of my being able to participate. I am so lucky if I get the laundry washed/folded/put away, dishes washed and put away, everyone having their teeth brushed and dressed for 3 days in a row in our house. Isn't the newborn schedule wonderful? Seriously, all sarcasm aside I wouldn't trade my newest little girl for anything. I just really miss my sleep. (and figure)
BTW–the dresses are just so cute. Congrats on getting some sewing time in. 🙂

Very cute dresses. Do you have a pattern you use for those or you just wing it? I think they need to match often! How cute is that!!!

I think footed sleepers are all I made when my kids were tiny-and they outgrow them so fast it really wasn't worth the effort at all. The dresses turned out so cute!!

Nooo, I didn't wing it this time. I used Lil Blue Boo's t-shirt dress pattern. It's super easy!

Both dresses came out adorable. She seems to like them too 🙂 I think you do get a pass seeing you have a newborn. Don't even know how you had time to do these. Have a great week.

I love these Natasha! Now…I just need a little girl to make them for. I have a boy, and I don't think they're really his style=(
