Magnolia Wreath

by Natasha on April 9, 2010 in tutorials

This was the other project I was telling you about that I made for Easter…the winter glitter wreath was pretty but it was time for a change. At first I was going to a do bunch of bright pink peonies (my favorite flower) but they looked a little too fake. For awhile I didn’t let a single silk flower in my house, but now I’ve expanded my horizon & as long as they look like perhaps they could be real I let them join us.

(you can find the “baby sleeping” sign in the window here, barking sheltie- make best offer)

For this project you’ll need a styrofoam wreath form (mine is 14″), hot glue gun & glue sticks & lots of pretty flowers. My wreath took 3 bunches of Magnolias but luckily they’re almost always 50% off at Michael’s or JoAnn’s. Really it’s just a bunch of pulling off the flowers & sporatically gluing them around the wreath. Before I put each flower on I’d glue a leaf or two down first, I think they add some nice dimension. But here’s the big tip that helped me out…

Before gluing a flower on firmly press the tip of your hot glue gun into the styrofoam, it will melt a hole that’s a perfect fit for the plastic base of each flower. Another tip is to place some flowers on the top, some on the inside, I like that things were kind of randomly placed all over…no real lines or pattern. I don’t know know why I didn’t take a picture of this step but to hang the wreath all I did was use a few stickpins to attach some ribbon to the back of the wreath, then I just tied the ribbon in a knot first, then pretty bow, around the wreath hanger.

That’s it! Happy Fridayyy!!!

The wreath hanging on my front door as we speak looks STRIKINGLY similar to this one, except mine are gardenias 🙂 It was used in my wedding, and now hangs on my (also maroon/red) front door :)))

I love this wreath! I am a new reader of your blog and truly enjoy everything you post! Loved the article about breastfeeding! I can't wait to hear about your appointments…we had our second daughter at a hospital with a midwife and it was a WONDERFUL experience! Best of luck to you!

That is so pretty! The magnolia blooms look very realistic. It looks great on your red door.

I agree with Michele- It looks like something out of a Pottery Barn catalog. Your house door is so lucky!

You inspired me! Though I couldn't find magnolias so I used azaleas.

Gorgeous wreath.. and shelty. I had 2 when I was little and they are wonderful dogs. But barking dogs and sleeping babies don't mix… If you find out how to solve that please tell me!
