How to make pin curls- a video!

by Natasha on April 20, 2012 in beauty, vlog

For awhile now I’ve really been wanting to add vlogs (that’s ‘video blogs’ mom) to LPM but you know, there’s that whole part of video-taping yourself and publishing it on the internet that can be a tad intimidating. For something like a hair tutorial however video just makes such better sense than still images. I don’t think it came out too shabby. Aside from the insects. (Be gentle, it’s my first! Video that is, not bug.)

Did you see on my Facebook a few weeks ago how I posted a picture of myself after using ragcurls? This is basically the same thing, I’m just using pins instead. My favorite part about doing my hair in these styles is it’s something I can do when it’s wet, I’ve even slept in them before. The disdain I have for blowdrying my hair makes the uncomfortable sleep totally tolerable. You actually don’t have to sleep in these, you just need a good hour to let them dry…you’ll see what I mean…

The only thing I didn’t mention is that after I towel-dried my hair I applied a light-weight volumizing mousse to the roots (I use this Prive Shining Weightless Amplifier one and adore it, no crunchiness!) & I also used the tiniest amount of Biosilk to my damaged ends and around my bangs which tend to frizz.
Here’s the ‘after’ a few hours (and errands) later…
So what do you think? Want to see more video tutorials? I’m sure its super bizarro to hear my voice and see me in sudo-real life.

Love this! I have always wanted to try but wasn’t really sure how to approach it. The video is super helpful. And hearing your voice is bizarre! I’m one of those people that likes to hear a voice as I’m reading what someone has wrote, and I had yours all wrong. Love all of your posts, hope my hair turns out just as well as yours!

I don’t know what I thought you would sound like, but it’s so fun to hear you! I’m 100% going to try these pin curls. I spend so much time blow drying and then curling my hair to get the same look. I’d call the first vlog a success!

Love this! totally doing this! I have naturally wavy-ish hair and normally have to blow-dry it. What an awesome compromise to straightening it. In the meantime, i can totally do my make-up, lunch, coffee and internet browse 🙂

    thanks Natasha!

I have wavy hair too, but it’s that ugly wavy that doesn’t dry straight or curly…just wonky. This is perfect for that kind of hair! Wonky hair, teehee!

I was thinking that would be a good idea! Like I have this trick for cutting an onion that I’ve been wanting to post but could never figure out how to adequately demonstrate it in photos…maybe a quick video?

Do you know if you have to already have somewhat curly hair for this to work? Mine is bone straight and I don’t know if it would hold the curl in a process like this.

      April 22, 2012 at 6:47 pm

Hm, I’m not sure. I do know this though…my mom has stick straight hair and she swears that doing her hair like this is the only way she gets a curl to stay. And it stays all day. I do know she slept in hers though…

    Hey Natasaha,

Just watched your tutorial about how to do pin curls. Being a ‘black girl’ I can’t do pin curls. LOL. But LOVED that you were willing to put yourself out there. That’s what I love about you! You’re not afraid to make fun of yourself.

I LOVE the vlog idea; you are a natural in front of the camera (I would be so awkward omg…)! Trying this out on my super-wavy think hair to give it some structure!

    • Natasha

      April 23, 2012 at 6:50 pm

I think wavy (or ‘think’ lol!) would be perfect!

    April 27, 2012 at 1:28 pm

Sooo I tried to do this the other night… I actually went for the sleep in them thing because I didn’t have time to do it during the day… So I put the curls in and pinned them with those little metal ones and I was done. I did put a little scarf around them while I slept so that they didn’t get messed up!! Well, I woke up the next morning and took them out and they were more kinky than curly!! So I thought ok, I’ll brush them out some… and it turned into a big poofy 80’s style mess!!! 😛 Next time maybe I’ll try smaller curls and not sleep on them!!
